Konawa Kid
ran six furlongs on the dirt at Will Rogers Downs on February 28, 2009.
He got caught up in the pack and was moved out too late to finish
strong.
On April 19 Konawa Kid went postward at Will Rogers
Downs in a one mile-70 yard event under jockey Jorge
Carreno. Drawing clear of the field early, he never
relinquished the lead and went on to win by two and a
quarter lengths. Konawa Kid earned $8,192 for the win.
After running third into the final turn of a one mile and
70 yard event on March 29, Konawa Kid challenged
the leader while pulling clear of other contenders.
Our colt couldn’t match strides and settled for second
place, worth a check from Will Rogers Downs for
$2,268.
Now based at Will Rogers Downs, Konawa Kid made
his first start at the Claremore, OK track on March 11.
After bolting to an early lead and setting the pace
for the first half of the one mile race, he gave way
to finish sixth. The effort was worth a check for $60.
Konawa Kid apparently likes the going at Sam Houston,
as he improved off his last outing to break his maiden on
December 30. With Quincy Hamilton in the irons, the
freshman Oklahoma-bred sat off the pace for half of the
mile and 70 yard main course test. He then steadily
drew off to win by an impressive five and 1/4 lengths.
Konawa Kid earned $3,600 for the tally.
